Array-ne Road killJuly 13, 2006By JONATHAN BLUNDELLWaxahatchie Daily LightCopyright 2006After public hearings began for the Trans-Texas Corridor this week, the Texas Department of Transportation has become an easy target for residents across the state.Monday night more than 200 residents gathered in Ennis to question and voice their concerns over the Trans-Texas Corridor and last night more than 400 gathered in Waxahachie to do the same.The TTC 35 portion of the statewide, 50-year, transportation plan is still in the early design phases but after public hearings wrap up in August, TxDOT will submit its proposal to the Federal Highway Administration for approval and begin whittling down the current 10-mile environmental study to a 1,200 foot right-of-way that stretches from Laredo to the Texas-Oklahoma border.According to TxDOT, the TTC 35 will use existing infrastructure whenever possible and in some locations, two or more corridors may be used to carry rail, commercial trucks, passenger vehicles and utilities from one end of the state to the other.The state has released 12 alternative routes for the TTC 35 with seven of the routes showing Ellis County as path for the 1,200 foot wide right-of-way.The state’s preferred route has the corridor stretching through Ellis County from Milford to east of Ferris.State Rep. Jim Pitts, R-Waxahachie, was joined by representatives from the offices of U.S. Rep. Joe Barton, R-Ennis, and state Sen. Kip Averitt, along with a number of local elected officials from Lancaster, Desoto and others.Waxahachie City Council members Joe Jenkins and Chuck Beatty were also on hand, along with Ellis County Commissioners Heath Sims, Pct. I believe the citizens of Ellis County will be more agreeable to this route.”The Loop 9 corridor was planned originally in 1956 to loop around the metroplex, south of Interstate 20.The loop is planned to run along the border of Dallas and Ellis counties.The Ellis County Commissioners Court passed a resolution Monday morning showing its support for looking closely at the Highway 360 and Loop 9 corridors.Joe Tillotson, mayor of Lancaster, also came out in support of the Highway 360 alternative.“I’m not here to discuss the merits of the TTC,” Tillotson said. As a product of the suburbs, I can attest to both their advantages and drawbacks.Advantages: (1) As the central cores of American cities deteriorated, the suburbs offered a refuge where a way of life could be started anew. (2) The suburbs often contributed to the deterioration of city centres when those fleeing to the ‘burbs took the tax base with them. But these are the polar opposite of the comfortable suburbs of North America and elsewhere in the western world, and they deserve to be treated as phenomena in their own right.The place to start is to recognize that human settlement patterns are legitimately diverse, encompassing city centres, other urban neighbourhoods, near suburbs, far suburbs (near and far being relative to the available transportation), rural regions and small towns and villages.

-ne 面白くなかった。ブラッククリスタルキングを倒そうとするまでの過程が安直過ぎて、ご都合主義としか思えなかった。もっとも、ブラッククリスタルキング登場が50話からでは、強引な方法を使わなければいけないのは理解できるが、そこはシリーズ構成が頑張ってブラッククリスタルキングに係わる話を増やすべきだったと思う。ふやした話は、ロイヤルワンダー学園、ブラック(ホワイト)学園の面々が協力、努力してどうやったらブラッククリスタルキングに対抗または退治することが出来るかを話し合い、実行する姿を描いて欲しかった。ところで、作中では描いていなかったがテレプーモーションでおひさまの国が出張する際には当然、メラメラの国、宝石の国、しずくの国、月の国、タネタネの国、かざぐるまの国全ての国王に「おひさまの国はロイヤルワンダー星に出張するんでよろしく!」と話をしているものと理解している。もしそうだとしたら、よく各国の王は出張を許したものだ。何せ、ふしぎ星はおひさまのめぐみで成り立っている星なのだ。おひさまの国が出張した瞬間、星全体が暗黒に覆われる上に各国の生産活動が停止してしまうのだ。おひさまの国が出張した事でブラッククリスタルキングを素早く倒し、戻ってこられる保障などこれっぽちも無いのに。ふしぎ星の人々は相当な覚悟を持っていたようだ。僕は、自分達が滅ぼうとも宇宙の平和を守る事を優先したふしぎ星の人々に敬意を表したい。

Mainstream Iowan: Thoughts on “Walk The Line”

Array-ne I have an interesting story about Riso Kyoiku (TSE Code# 4714), a humble family-run private education company running ju-ku, or cram schools, not dissimilar from America’s SAT review courses. Investors, even large ones it must be said, generally bought stocks because they thought (for better or worse) they were good investments and that their prices would go up in the future because others would recognize the same. And while some even made money in this good old-fashioned kind of way, few bought stocks with the intention that they would make them go up come proverbial hell or high water. Yet there wasn’t a one article in Fortune, Forbes or the Wall Street Journal that questioned the wisdom (or queried the market price impact impact) of focusing multiple billions of dollars of liquidity upon non-megacap stocks through open market purchases. In the post-bubble meltdown that also hit Japanese stocks hard, Riso was minding it’s own business, and fairly well one might add. In this instance, the very large American fund management company chose Riso. They chose it for their value funds, their growth funds, their global funds, their country funds. It was quite obviously was no longer a value stock, yet it remained a member in a myriad of style contradicted funds. The stock price came off to near it’s pre-split ramp price (still 2.3x, it’s price at the beginning of the ramp), but leapt to a new high just eclipsing its prior high on the back of rises every day in Jun4 2004 which coincided with this investor acquiring another 6% of the company. But a combination of another round of splitting, split ramping, insider sales, and accumulation by interested parties who raised their stake by another 5% to nearly 15% of shares outstanding or about a third of the free-float, took the stock up 27% in the last of Aug, and other 15% in Sept to conveniently set another new high for the end of Q3 2004. Maybe it was causual coincidence that they increased there stake so substantially at higher and higher prices which coincided with important fund valuation periods and random perhaps, but curious all the same. Maybe this large shareholder was lightening up.Maybe they were trying to send a message to management that while they have mutual interests in seeing a higher a share price, they will NOT buy any more stock from the owner & family at these high prices. Since then, the American investment manager so enamoured prior, has cut its ownership by more than half to Q3 2005, and the price has nearly halved.

-ne Well isn’t that interesting.This poll had either the highest or second highest voter turnout in the time that I’ve been doing polls, twenty voters. Part of this is due to my not getting the question changed as fast as I should have - I still wonder if people were voting on shows you watch most before I changed the question - meaning more time to vote. There were 20 votes and amazingly (in my opinion anyway) every show got at least one vote. In second place - and really the winner of the actual shows - with four votes (20%) was The Amazing Race. I regard it as the Cadillac of Reality-Competition programs and it’s a show that I think I could do really well on even though, because I’m a Canadian, I’ll never get a chance (I did vote for it here once). I don’t watch every Reality-Competition show - in fact of the shows listed I only watch Survivor and The Amazing Race - but at their core they can be a fun alternative.

-ne My wife and I recently had the opportunity to watch the movie about Johnny Cash, Walk The Line. The film implies that this marks Cash’s abandonment of gospel, as henceforth it makes no other reference to Cash’s gospel music, except when the warden at Folsom prison self-servingly asks Cash to play gospel instead of his edgy prison-themed songs in order to keep from stirring up the inmates (Cash, of course, refuses). Cash’s real-life decision to leave his original record label partly because it prohibited him from recording gospel albums (of which he would record many throughout his career) is omitted from the film.Having insulted the religion to which Johnny Cash dedicated much of his life, the movie jarringly ends in 1968, as if the end of Cash’s drug abuse and womanizing left nothing interesting to tell of the following 35 years of his life.

By some odd coincidence which is due to cosmic forces beyond my understanding (are the planets aligning?) in the past week I’ve gotten three calls for second interviews. Not that these are high paying jobs to be envious of, but each will provide me with some type of income…which is becoming an ever increasingly pressing issue as the days roll on by.The job interview at Crappy Calls, where I was stood up by my interviewer Mark, actually called me in for a second interview. And 3) That Sheila’s office is cluttered but she didn’t want one with a window because the light hurts her eyes.The criminal background check called for a second interview as well.

But oil was also craftily used by the USA (specially by Reagan from 1981 onwards) during the “arms race”, not only when trying to deny access to some important equipments for oil exploration to the soviets by, for example, supporting regional conflicts that were stressful for the USSR such as Afghanistan and instilling Saudi Arabia to sell oil (a lot of it and at cheap prices) so that it would make more difficult for the USSR to finance the arms race through oil revenues.

And though both teams focused on drafting defensive talent, considering the historical lack of impact that even high draft picks have their rookie year, both teams had essentially done nothing to improve themselves on defense in the near term.So why did NFL analysts expect so much out of these teams? I was able to get 3 loads washed and dried this afternoon while I was outside maintaining the pool and supervising Jacob and the children from across the street in the pool. I spent a good part of the day in and out of the pool, skimming it and retrieving tree branches.

Corner of my world: What Type of (Board) Gamer Are You?

Array As the first riders left the line those of us in the back waited a minute or so to get going up the road. Right away I lit a couple of matches out of the book and got to the far left side and started to try to get by the mob. As I squeaked, and I mean squeaked, by the edge of the pack with as little as an inch of room between me and the drop off the side of the road, I did as much passing as I could while it was still at bulk rate pricing. As I looked further up the mountain all I could see was one solid line of riders all the way up as far as I could see. I spun out a couple of times and had to dismount and push across a couple of particularly steep loose sections, much to the dismay of a couple of peeps behind me. I went for the Cytomax bottle after a strong effort to pass three people who had piled up when one at the front of their small group stalled. As we rolled fast along the gravel road a few stronger riders passed me. By just letting the suspension slam its way across the top of the rocks, I passed maybe half a dozen other riders who were carefully picking their way down the line. Picking off some riders in front of me with some very well timed if not sketchy passing. A woman rider called out and passed me as we entered the creek section. I ran my gloves across my nose a couple of times thinking maybe I had broken it, but, as they didn’t come up dark and wet, I thought I must be fine. The dust now was a factor as I tried to chase down the people who had passed me and as I overtook some slower riders. I made it to the river and across the bridge having passed a few more riders on the way down and trying not to stack it again as I tried to keep my sight. I made it up to the top of the climb in time to pass one more guy and start the downhill again. I quickly caught up to the Deathstar rider and executed a pass in a clear spot. As I heard a slapping chain approach me from behind, I slingshot-ed through a couple of bermed turns to pass some guys just ahead of me as well as losing the one running up my arse. I held my position most of the way, making only one or two passes before the next singletrack section. I called out early and repeatedly and she managed to get her ride clear of the trail in time for me to pass. I settled in knowing there really wasn’t anywhere to pass until the next gravel road ahead. I knew where it went and I made one pass on a guy and got up to the off camber lift on the right side of the trail. I gained on a rider ahead of me and latched onto the back of a four rider train as we made the last dogleg right and down to the road. I drafted off the guy ahead of me and we passed a couple of slowing riders. As he eased up at the top of the little rise in the road I slingshotted out of his draft and passed him, topped out around 160rpm in my next to biggest gear. My eyes had passed the point of watering and moved on to feeling like someone had made a couple of passes over them with 220 grit sandpaper.

I can’t let Finland down, so on we go:The Finnagler looked more comfortable than in any previous summer league game, maybe due to a combination of getting used to the atmosphere and actually getting to play his position. The man is playing to get back in the league and made a fine case that he should be. Taurean Green didn’t get many minutes (and had to play off the ball most of the time), probably so The Finnagler could get in some work at point.Quick notes on Seattle:Kevin Durant can play, but Jeff Green can play too- and he was the man tonight.Robert Swift was rocking a very long, very red pony tail on the sideline.

Fame got a little upset and kicked Swift in the hamstring but Swift fired back with a series of kicks that sent Fame running to the floor. Swift followed with a plancha and brought Fame back in the ring where Fame fell to the mat with an injured knee. Swift fired back with a body block and Whisper in the Wind but Fame leveled him with a clothesline and a shoulderbreaker for two. Patrick finally came back to the ring but his armbar was countered by McCoy and he backed to a corner for sanctuary. Lee kept Suicide grounded with a neck vise submission but Suicide fought to his feet but got taken back down with an STO for two. Lee hit a leg lariat and took Suicide back to the mat with an abdominal stretch like hold. Lee went for another submission with a leg lace but Suicide hit several forearms to get out of the hold but fell right back into a chinlock. Lee and Suicide fought on the top but it was Lee who fell back to the mat and Suicide hit a body block. (5) In an opening round ACW Combat championship tournament match, Eddie Taurus of the New Movement (w/George Martel) defeated Dany Only.All Combat matches are HARDCORE and this was right up Only’s alley. Taurus went right back to the ring to equalize Only’s brawling with wrestling and some kicks to the middle of Only’s back. Only fought back with right hand punches to the jaw but Taurus hit a leg lariat for one. Taurus fought back with punches of his own but Only smashed his face on the ring apron. (6) In an opening round ACW Combat championship tournament match, Sideshow defeated Austin Amadeus of the New Movement (w/David Mercury.)Sideshow went right on the attack with a series of kicks to Amadeus’ upper body which made him bail to the floor for advice from Mercury. Amadeus fought back and hit Sideshow with a backbreaker onto the ring apron for two. Amadeus hit Sideshow with kicks and forearms that sent him back to the floor where Mercury was waiting with open arms and closed fists. Amadeus drove Sideshow’s back into a wall but a miscommunication in the ring cost Amadeus the match as Sideshow hit the Double Penetration to advance. ACW is back at Bourbon Street next Tuesday night with two more opening round Combat tournament matches. Alot of systems used and since im in the finance operations which is more back office, I have to learn how to use the systems from the start of the deal to the end. So far team lead is nice, colleagues are nice. The toilet bowls are like the ones in japan, which helps you to wash your butt.And they really emphasize on work-life balance;they have this passage stuck on the back of the toilet doors for you to read while you are doing your business. There is a welcome lunch by my team tomorrow, so hopefully I’ll get to know them better.On the negative side, the dual screen desktop is really giving me headaches.
